Banished to the Basement

Today was fast Sunday for our family; we thought it might be fast Sunday for a ward but it wasn't. The kids were not amused.  When we got out of bed, Brian had scriptures with the kids and talked to them about the beatitudes. There have been not so great attitudes. It's understandable that things are hard and are not the way we would like them to be right now, but our real test is to find happiness even still. I talk to my mom on the phone for a while and then we got ready for church. Our biggest mistake today was thinking we could get to church when it started and still find a seat in the chapel. It was so packed there were only a few open seats. They told us that we could sit down stairs in the basement. It felt like we had been banished along with a couple other families.  The headset translation did work, so that was good, but I was afraid that they would forget to bring us the sacrament. Fortunately we heard the little deacons walking down the stairs so that we can get the sacrament. We learned a good lesson to be at church early!

Preston didn't have a primary teacher today, so I let him play the piano in the room until the Italian primary presidency came to get us. They didn't speak very much English, so we tried to use Google Translate. It didn't always turn out right. I went to find Brian, and he translated the primary singing time and sharing time for us. The Italian primary kids were so crazy; they would not stay in their seats and not cooperating with the lesson. Preston was the only American primary kid. We walked home and on the way saw Daniele from the gelato place. We stopped and talked to him and he introduced us to his friend.  We talked for a few minutes and then continued home for dinner. We made soup along with fennel and tomato salad.

We will go to bed soon so that we can get up early and go to the office tomorrow to try to get more answers and figure out what we should do here. I felt sad sitting in the basement for sacrament meeting, but I was reminded of the song "Count Your Many Blessings."  I spent some time talking to my dear friend, Trish Schroeder. She reminded me that we all need to be in the furnace to become refined, but sometimes we have to control the heat of the furnace that were going through. We have to go through a furnace to change but we don't need to be burnt to a crisp.  Sometimes we feel the burn a bit too much.
