We had the Doolittles and Chaffins over for Easter dinner...the total was 6 adults and 
13 children. It was a blast. Thank you for sharing the holiday with us! After dinner, we made Resurrection Rolls...the recipe and explanation follows. As you make these yummy rolls with your child, you can explain what Easter is all about - Hope and Life Everlasting through Jesus Christ. Before you begin, as you prepare your ingredients, you can explain to your child that: Jesus came at Christmas as a little baby.. he grew up and loved people very much, healing them and bringing them hope and life. But some people grew angry with him because they didn't understand that He was God's Son. They hit him and teased him and nailed him to across.. and then he died...
Ingredients:
Crescent rolls (or use frozen rolls, thawed - or your own roll recipe)
Melted Butter
Mini Marshmallows or large ones cut in half
Cinnamon Sugar
Give each child a triangle of crescent rolls (or circle of dough). The roll represents the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in. Give each child a marshmallow. This represents Jesus. Have him dip the marshmallow in melted butter. This represents the oils to anoint him. Then dip the buttered marshmallow in the cinnamon and sugar. This represents the spices used to anoint the body. Place the marshmallow in the center of the dough. Fold and pinch the edges tight to completely enclose the marshmallow. This represents the wrapping of Jesus' body after death. Place in a 350 degree oven for 10 - 12 minutes. The oven represents the tomb--pretend like it was three days! When the rolls have cooled slightly, the children can open their rolls (cloth) and discover that Jesus is no longer there, HE IS RISEN! This represents how Jesus rose from the dead. All that will remain in the "tomb" are the "linen wrappings." And the rolls are sweet to eat.
Personal note: The most important part is to really enclose the marshmallow in the roll. We tried it with large marshmallows the first time but there wasn't enough dough to cover it well and it oozed all over. We had better success with the cut in half marshmallows. The one that turned out "perfect" was made by Eliza who is not even two yet, but she really squished that thing together and the marshmallow was totally gone! It's really cool and they are tasty!!
